Pick Alanya if you want a real town around your hotel — restaurants, bazaars, nightlife, a castle on a headland — and a much wider price spread, from €50-a-night aparthotels to ultra all-inclusive resorts.
What the numbers say
Our directory currently lists 105 published hotels in Side, 54 of them five-star — more than half the stock. The average verified guest score among well-reviewed properties is 8.3/10, the highest concentration of top-rated resorts on this coast outside Belek. Side is where the big Turkish resort brands cluster: Barut Hemera holds a 9.2 from more than 900 verified stays, and TUI Blue Sensatori Sorgun tops our list at 9.6.
Alanya is a different animal: 288 published hotels, only 80 of them five-star, average score 7.7. That lower average isn't a warning — it's a spread. Alanya covers everything from budget aparthotels (Cleopatra King Apart: 9.1 from ~1,000 stays, from about €53 a night) to adult-only designers like Sunprime C-Lounge (9.6 with 337 reviews) and full-blown ultra all-inclusives like Mylome, whose 22 curated guest videos make it the most-filmed hotel on Travreel.
Beaches
Both are genuinely sandy — rare on a coast that turns pebbly further west. Side's beaches shelve gently and its resort strips (Sorgun, Kumköy, Çolaklı) open straight onto them; almost everything is ski-in/ski-out, beach edition. Alanya's famous Cleopatra Beach is arguably the single best urban beach in Türkiye, but many hotels sit across a road from the sea, and the resort-with-private-beach experience concentrates in the Okurcalar–Konaklı strip west of town.
Beyond the sunbed
Side is an open-air museum: the amphitheatre, the Temple of Apollo at sunset and the colonnaded old town are a ten-minute dolmuş from most resorts. That's the extent of it, though — evenings mean the hotel entertainment team. Alanya has an actual working town: the Seljuk castle and Red Tower, a harbour full of pirate-ship cruises, a long dining scene, and nightlife that runs past 2am in summer. If leaving the hotel every evening matters, Alanya wins without a contest.
Getting there
Side is roughly 65 km from Antalya Airport — about an hour by transfer. Alanya is 120 km, closer to two hours, though Gazipaşa Airport (40 km east of Alanya) shortens it dramatically if your operator flies there. With small children, Side's shorter transfer is a genuine argument.

Side is the safer bet for a classic one-hotel, one-week all-inclusive holiday — higher average quality, gentler beaches, shorter transfer. Alanya rewards travellers who treat the hotel as a base rather than the destination, and it is unbeatable value at the budget end.
