Pick Kuşadası if you want sightseeing with your sea — Ephesus, Şirince and Pamukkale day trips, a walkable town, and hotels that cost a little less like for like.

The flagship is TUI Blue Grand Azur — 9.4 from 1,200 verified stays on its own bay-front park — with value giants like Orka Lotus Beach (700 m of private sand) behind it. The best-kept secret sits around the headland: tiny Z-Villas Beach Hotel in Turunç holds a near-perfect 9.8, proof that the area's boutique corners outscore its giants.
Kuşadası lists 102 hotels (21 five-star) at a lower 7.8 average — a wider quality spread, which is exactly where the videos earn their keep. The clifftop Korumar Deluxe films its Pigeon Island panorama; Charisma De Luxe runs an infinity pool over the Aegean in the town centre; the boutique Unique Life Style is the score champion at 9.6 from nearly 800 stays; and Pine Bay Holiday Resort remains the grande-dame value pick guests say "proves you don't need to overpay".
Beaches
Marmaris wins on setting, not sand: the bay is calm and swimmable everywhere, but town beaches are narrow — the postcard swimming happens on boat trips and in Turunç's coves. Kuşadası counters with Ladies Beach and Long Beach — real sandy stretches — plus Aydın's water parks for kids.
Beyond the sunbed
This is Kuşadası's knockout punch: Ephesus is 25 minutes away — the best-preserved ancient city in the Mediterranean — with Şirince's hill village and even Pamukkale in day-trip range. Marmaris answers with water: the Dalyan river trip (turtles and rock tombs), Cleopatra Island's famous sand, and the best boat-trip menu on the Aegean. History buffs choose Kuşadası without a second thought; teenagers usually vote Marmaris.
Getting there
Marmaris uses Dalaman airport (~90 minutes). Kuşadası flies into İzmir (~75 minutes) — similar transfers, but Kuşadası is also Türkiye's busiest cruise port, so its centre absorbs ship crowds on port days.

Marmaris is the fuller resort machine — bigger bay, bigger nights, better boat trips. Kuşadası trades some of that energy for Ephesus and sandier town beaches at friendlier prices.
