The Çeşme peninsula is where İstanbul and İzmir go on holiday — which tells you two things: the standard is high, and so are July prices. The real question is which ten-minute-apart world you sleep in: Çeşme proper, with its beaches and castle-topped marina, or Alaçatı, the stone village that became the Aegean's style capital.
The short answer
Pick Çeşme if you want the sea first — proper sandy beaches (Ilıca's warm shallows above all), beach clubs, a marina promenade and bigger hotels with pools.
Pick Alaçatı if you want the scene — cobbled lanes, bougainvillea stone houses turned boutique hotels, Türkiye's densest good-restaurant strip and windsurf mornings on the bay.
What the numbers say
Çeşme lists 112 hotels (11 five-star) at an 8.6 average. The revelation is its boutique top end: Before Sunset holds 9.8 from 136 verified stays, and No.22 Çeşme anchors the small-hotel scene the town is quietly building alongside its beach clubs.
Alaçatı lists just 50 hotels — but their 9.2 average is among the highest of any destination we track. The formula repeats and works: a dozen stone-house boutiques scoring 9.8, from adults-only Sandal to Pachamama. For a resort-style exception, Biblos Beach Resort (9.4) puts "Türkiye's Maldives" water — a reviewer's words — under Alaçatı prices.
Beaches and the wind
Çeşme owns the swimming: Ilıca's warm, thermal-fed shallows run for a kilometre; Altınkum and Pırlanta add wilder sand. Alaçatı's shore is about the wind — its bay is one of the world's most reliable windsurf classrooms; you learn here, then swim at the beach clubs. Families with small kids: Ilıca, no contest.
Food and evenings
Alaçatı wins dinner, and it isn't close: the village's restaurant density and quality have no Aegean rival, and summer evenings on Kemalpaşa Street are the point of the trip. Çeşme answers with kumru sandwiches, marina fish restaurants and beach-club nights. Many visitors sleep in one and dine in the other — the dolmuş takes fifteen minutes.
Seasons and prices
July–August is peak everything: Alaçatı's boutiques sell out and price like İstanbul's five-stars. May–June and September are the insider window — warm sea, wind still working, tables available. Winter Alaçatı is quietly lovely; winter Çeşme mostly sleeps.
